Clayton Shipping's Blog - "The Art of Ship"

We have decided to start a blog where we can share more of the behind the scenese work that goes into each ship profile. It will also give us a space where we can provide sneak peaks into our upcoming projects and a community area for sharing. Please enjoy the blog and give us your feedback!

Myth or Fact - Mr. Constanza?
Back in the 1960's, I believe there was an Italian naval architect by the name of Mr. Constanza. He worked on famous Italian liners such as the SS Galileo Galilei, Guglielmo Marconi , SS Eugenio C., SS Oceanic and the little Italia. Trying to find out more about Mr. Constanza has proved to be a difficult search. I have started to feel the constraints of the Internet when looking for historical data. At some point, you need to talk to someone to get the real answers. Who is Mr. Constanza? Was he really the naval architect that designed all of these ships? What was his first name? What other ships did he work on?

This is my current quest. Let us see how much I can find before I publish my next profile on Tuesday!

To kick start The Art of Ship, we will be giving away a brand new book. Anyone who provides comments on this or our previous blog (via The Art of Ship blog site) will be eligible for a prize drawing that will be held next Monday. In order to provide comments, you will need a hotmail or windows live account. One lucky responder will receive the book, "Queen Mary 2, The Greatest Ocean Liner of Our Time" by John Maxtone-Graham. The winner will be announced next Tuesday on our blog.

You are free to provide comments on anything but if you need a catalyst for inspiration, tell us what you would like to see from Clayton Shipping. New features, changes to the website? New profiles on particular ships? - just let us know.

Enjoy the Art of Ship!

First Blog - Sattha Bhum
Last week, Clayton Shipping had the pleasure of being a guest at the naming ceremony of the container ship, Sattha Bhum. The Sattha Bhum will be the focus of our weekly ship profile which will be posted on Tuesday (our normal posting day). This is a departure from our normal passenger ship focused profiles but we believe this will provide additional diversity to our website. Passenger ships have been our primary focus as the ease of access and photo opportunities are more prolific due to the port location.

If all goes well, we hope to expand this area of expertise as we continue to diversify our ship profiling portfolio. If you would like a sneak preview of this week's profile, please visit http://claytonshipping.com/SatthaBhum.aspx.

Each week, we invest a minimum of 8 hours to prepare an individual ship profile. Our research process is quite extensive to make sure we are providing the most accurate information. As always, we look forward to hearing from you on what areas of the site are interesting for you. Please send us your feedback or write on our blog. The first 5 people who contribute to our blog will be eligible for a lucky draw. We will be giving away the book, Queen Mary 2 by Maxtone-Graham/Lloyd.

Enjoy the site!
