Costa Allegra
A frequent visitor to Singapore, Costa Allegra can be seen below making her approach to the Singapore Cruise Center on a bright, sunny Wednesday morning. Absent from the superstructure of the Allegra (and her sister Costa Marina) is an unobstructed, front viewing area. If you gaze above the bridge, notice that the majority of the passengers are gravitating to viewing locations on the port side where the glass drops to half height.
Below is a side view of the Costa Allegra with Sentosa Island in the background. The Allegra is considered an ugly ship by many and although her lines may be less smooth than today's moder box cruise ships, the Allegra certainly has her own character. The Allegra was originally built in 1969 as the Annie Johnson, a container ship. In 1990, she was purchased by Costa an converted into a cruise ship.
The Costa Allegra has a very unique funnel that is actually shaped as 5 interconnected columns with 2 on each side, painted yellow and 1 elongated oval in the center, painted white. The twin, white air intakes that flank the funnel are quite interesting. Given the utilitarian design of the ship, most likely they are fully functioning however this is something that would inspire closer inspection.
