Saga Rose - Part 1

Time to say goodbye to a grande dame of the high seas. A true veteran in every sense of the word, below is the final arrival of the Saga Rose, ex-Gripsolm, ex-Sagafjord. Her final call to Singapore was on March 15th of 2009. Built in 1965, she is now in the process of completing her 45th world cruise, which is far more than any other ship in history (the QE2 had less than 30)!

Although the Sagafjord has had some modification throughout her time, most have been modest. The addition of premium cabins above the bridge (shown below), while somewhat unbalanced to the rest of her smooth lines, do provide a unique distinguishing feature to her profile which is an unmistakable differnce between absent on her step-sister, the Saga Ruby (ex-Vistafjord).

It makes me sad to see such elegant old ladies pass away. There is hope that she will be turned into a conference hotel in London but with the current economic situation, we are not holding our breath. So, from Singapore, we say farewell to a beautiful piece of moving history.
